Naperville, Ill. - An early marker was all the Thunder women's soccer team needed on Saturday night as the Thunder defeated North Central 1-0 for its sixth-consecutive victory. The victory moves the Thunder, ranked ninth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, to 13-1-1 overall and keeps the Thunder 5-0 in the CCIW. North Central falls to 7-7-1 overall and 3-3 in the CCIW. Wheaton will return home on Wednesday night to host Millikin University for a 7 pm kickoff at McCully Stadium.
Wheaton dominated the run of play on Saturday night, outshooting the Cardinals 23-4 with a 10-1 edge in shots on goal.
Lauren Ketchum recorded her sixth shutout of the season with one save. North Central's Madison Lockard made nine saves and allowed one goal for the Cardinals.
The Thunder fired off five shots in the opening seven minutes of action before
Jensen Ellis was able to convert a goal after Lockard's save on a shot by
Izzy McNally. Wheaton continued to pepper the Cardinal net with a 15-0 edge in shots with Lockard making seven first half saves.
Lockard made another two saves in the second half as Wheaton held the ball to an 8-4 shot advantage.
