Men's soccer plays to scoreless draw at Augustana

Rock Island, Ill. - The Thunder men's soccer team played Augustana College to a scoreless draw on Saturday night. Hasten Biddlecome and Augustana's Jeremy Klaber combined to make 13 saves on the night as both teams tallied their first draw in conference action. Wheaton's record moves to 7-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play. The Vikings are now 3-4-2 and 1-1-1 in CCIW action.

In an evenly played match, Wheaton held a slight 15-11 edge in shots with an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Biddlecome stopped five shots in net for the Thunder while Klaber stopped eight Thunder shots.

Biddlecome was the first to answer the call on Saturday night with two saves in the opening 12 minutes of play. Klaber's three first half saves came in the middle of the period with the last coming on a Christian Holland shot in the 33rd minute.

Biddlecome's biggest save came on a Justin Murphy shot in the 57th minute when the Thunder keeper was able to steer the shot away for a Viking corner kick. Klaber answered with two saves on Alessandro D'Argento 10 minutes later.

Nick Dispensa's high shot in the 94th minute was the only offensive opportunity in the first overtime before Wheaton turned up the attack in the second extra period. Klaber turned away a shot by Ben Ferraro off a Thunder corner kick in the 103rd minute and then watched as Holland's shot in the 107th minute saided wide and Jacob Kapitaniuk's shot was turned away by the Viking defense in the 109th minute to seal the draw.
