Wheaton, Ill. -
The Wheaton women's soccer team opened its 2018 Bob Baptista Invitational on Friday night with a 3-0 victory at Joe Bean Stadium against Thomas More College (0-3). Wheaton improves to 3-0 on the season - the Thunder has not allowed a goal this year.

Wheaton and Thomas More played a scoreless first half tonight, despite a 14-0 advantage for Wheaton in shots. Thunder began heavily attacking the Saints defense around the 15-minute mark when freshman Jensen Ellis blasted two shots on goal in a one minute span. Ellis' two shots ignited a period of 10 minutes that saw Wheaton attempt six of its 14 shots for the half.

33120The Thunder gained a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute on Madison Peebles' goal (VIDEO). Peebles fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box off an assist by Anna Saunders (PICTURED LEFT) to give the hosts the lead. A long cross by Saunders was deflected to Peebles and the All-American deftly put the ball at the opposite post past Thomas More goalkeeper Maddy Kim. Wheaton out-shot the Saints 9-4 in the second half.

Thunder goalkeeper Madison Lee made two saves as Wheaton tallied its third-consecutive shutout of the season. Thomas More netminder Maddy Kim made seven saves, allowing one goal.

The Thunder dominated the tempo all night as Wheaton attempted 23 shots, including eight shots on goal. The Saints tallied just four shots in the match, including two shots on goal. Wheaton was awarded six corner kicks in the match, to one for the Saints.

Wheaton (3-0) hosts Kalamazoo College Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the final match of tournament. Saturday's opening match features Aurora versus Thomas More at 4:30 p.m.

Note Worthy: The three-shutout start to the season marks the first time the program has opened a campaign with three-consecutive shutouts since 1989...head coach Pete Felske's program starts the season with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2014.
