Arlington, Va. - The Thunder volleyball extended its win streak to seven matches on Friday with two wins at the Marymount University Invitational. The Thunder (7-0) opened action on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory against Washington College (Md.) and closed out the day with a 3-1 victory against Randolph-Macon.
The Thunder defeated Washington College 3-1 in the opener with a 25-14 win in the first set. The Shorewomen topped Wheaton 25-17 in the second set to snap Wheaton's string of 16 consecutive sets without a loss. Wheaton rallied for a 25-20 win in the third set and the Thunder closed out the win with a 25-18 win in the decisive fourth set.
Deborah Smith (PICTURED LEFT) led the Thunder with 11 kills on 18 attempts as she posted a stellar .611 attack percentage.
Kelly Thornton added 10 kills,
Madeline Moore registered nine kills and
Audrey Gerze had seven kills. Moore posted a .32 attack percentage and Gerze had a .308 effort in the match. Thornton distributed 25 assists in the matchup and
Alecia Funk had 18 assists. Senior Jess Bosse had 17 digs and Thornton had a team-high three service aces.Â

Wheaton topped Randolph-Macon 3-1 as the Thunder won the first set 25-20. RMC earned a 25-23 victory in the second set to tie the set score at one apiece. The Thunder gained the advantage with a 25-15 victory in the third set and closed out the match with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set. Gerze posted a team-high 12 kills in the match and she added a team-high 20 digs.
Deborah Smith (PICTURED LEFT) added nine kills with a .300 attack percentage, and Moore added eight kills.
Ellie Brown tallied seven kills, Thornton contributed six kills and
Kaylee Byerly had five kills with a .429 attack percentage. Thornton had a match-high 22 assists and Funk added 17 assists. Thornton had six service aces and Bosse added 14 digs. Byerly had a team-high five assisted blocks in the win.
Wheaton closes out its participation in the tournament on Saturday with two matches. The Thunder faces Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) and Wheaton closes out the tournament at 3:00 p.m. against Eastern (Pa.).
