Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 15 Thunder women's soccer team shuts out St. Thomas in a storm-shortened matchup

Salisbury, Maryland - The Thunder women's soccer team, ranked 15th in the United Soccer Coaches Division III preseason Top-25 poll, opened its 2018 season on Friday at the Salisbury University Classic. Wheaton earned a 2-0 victory against St. Thomas (Minn.) in Friday's matchup.

Wheaton scored twice in the first half of today's matchup. A thunderstorm moved into the area during the intermission to force a two hour delay. The match was moved to a different location to play under the lights for 25 minutes to make the contest a regulation match with Wheaton earning the 2-0 victory.

Bailey Wolf scored the go-ahead goal for the Thunder against the Tommies. Wolf's goal at 14:56 was assisted by freshman Jensen Ellis to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. A little more than 10 minutes later, freshman Sara Bakke scored her first collegiate goal to give Wheaton a 2-0 advantage. Bakke's goal was assisted by sophomore Isabelle Oliver. The pair of first half goals stood for the remainder of the first half. The Thunder dominated play in the first half out-shooting St. Thomas 9-0 in the first half, including a 5-0 edge in shots on goal.

Each team attempted two shots in the storm-shortened second half.

The Thunder held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks in the match. Thunder goalkeeper Lauren Ketchum made two saves in 70 minutes of action in the net. St. Thomas netminder Olivia Elvidge recorded four saves and allowed two goals.

Wheaton closes out its participation in the tournament on Saturday against Salisbury University at 1:00 p.m. (EDT).
