Naperville, Ill. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team defeated North Central College, 5-0 on Friday afternoon in a CCIW Championship Semifinal. Wheaton will face Augustana on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the CCIW Championship Final.
Wheaton, the defending CCIW Champion, is making its 12th appearance in the championship match since 2004 when CCIW moved to the current tournament format. The Thunder won CCIW Championships in 2012 and 2017 in that time.
Wheaton's first win today against North Central was an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles by
Josh Cheng and
Andrew Bristol against Adam Winters and Tyler Haizel. The Thunder No. 1 doubles team of
Jeremiah Yi and
Dane Paulsen followed with an 8-3 victory against North Central's Victor Krueger and Tyler Bussell. Wheaton accomplished the sweep in doubles with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles for
Anderson Park and
Karl Wenzel against Lucas Pindak and Alex Kohlmeier.
Anderson Park was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles against Krueger to extend the Thunder lead to 4-0.
Dane Paulsen gave Wheaton its fifth victory to secure the semifinal win. Paulsen defeated Adam Winters 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
