Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College alumnus, Randy Pfund '74, will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Bloomington, Illinois on Saturday, May 5. Saturday's event culminates with a dinner at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University.
Randy Pfund came to Wheaton in 1970 to play basketball for his father, Lee Pfund. In four seasons for the Crusaders, he recorded 1,710 career points a mark that ranked sixth at the time of his graduation and is eighth on the program's all-time scoring list today. Pfund's 478 career assists is the most in program history, a mark that has stood for 44 seasons. In a 1973 matchup against Illinois Benedictine College, he established a new Wheaton single-game record for assists with 15.
Pfund was named to the All-CCIW First Team in his sophomore and senior seasons, and earned an honorable mention selection as a junior.He was inducted into the Wheaton College Hall of Honor in 1991.
Randy Pfund was as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers from 1985 to 1992; and he served as Lakers Head coach from 1992 to 1994. In 1995, he was appointed as General Manager of the Miami Heat, a role held for 13 seasons. In Pfund's tenure with the Heat, Miami made 10 postseason appearances, won seven division championships and an NBA Championship in 2006.
