Thunder guard Aston Francis named a 2017-18 Second Team All-American by D3hoops.com

Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College junior Aston Francis has been recognized as a Second Team Division III All-American by D3hoops.com. Earlier this week, the website named Francis to its All-Midwest Region First Team and tabbed him as the Central Region Player of the Year.

 The 2017-18 CCIW "Fred Young CCIW Most Outstanding Player", Francis' recognition marks Wheaton's 11th D3hoops.com All-American selection since 2003. He joins Joel Kolmodin (2003 & 2004); Kent Raymond (2007, 2008 & 2009), Ben Panner (2010), Tim McCrary (2010, 2011 & 2012) and Tyler Peters (2014) as Wheaton's D3hoops.com All-American's since 2003.

Francis' 712 total points this year is the second-highest single-season total in program history as he is just the second player in Wheaton history to surpass the 700-point milestone in a single season. Three-time NABC All-American Kent Raymond is the program's only other 700-point scorer with 738 points on 2007-08. Francis' 712 points ranks fifth in Division III this year.

A unanimous First Team All-CCIW selection the past two seasons, Francis' 27.4 points per game scoring average this year broke the previous Wheaton single-season record of 27.3 points per game by Tom Dykstra in 1969-70. Francis' 27.4 points per game ranks fourth in Division III in scoring this year and is tied for sixth in all NCAA Divisions. His scoring average (all divisions) ranks only behind: Grinnell's Vinny Curta (32.7 PPG); Tommy Bolte of Concord University (31.8 PPG); Eureka's Shea Feehan (30.6 PPG); Muskingum's Marcus Dempsey (30.3 PPG) and Michigan Tech's Kyle Monroe (27.7 PPG). Francis is tied with Oklahoma's Trae Young (27.4 PPG) for sixth in the NCAA in scoring.

The Thunder junior broke his own Wheaton single-season record for three-pointers with 121 this year. Francis leads Division III in both total three-pointers (121) and three-pointers per game (4.65 3PG), and he is 17th in the country in total field goals (224). Francis 4.65 points per game average this year leads the NCAA (all divisions).
