Frazier's second half frenzy leads women's basketball to 67-47 win at Bluffton

GAME STATS Bluffton, Ohio – The Thunder women's basketball team won its second game in as many days to claim the title at Bluffton's 'McDonald's Holiday Tournament'. Wheaton used a late first half run to separate from Bluffton for a 67-47 victory. With the win, Wheaton concludes the 2018 portion of its schedule with a 9-3 overall record and will return to CCIW play on January 2, when the Thunder travel to Bloomington for a marquee matchup against #14-ranked Illinois Wesleyan at 7 pm. The loss drops Bluffton to 4-7 on the season.

In addition to winning the team title, Hannah Frazier was named the tournament MVP and Jennifer Berg was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Wheaton shot a healthy 39.3% (22-56) from the field and shot 28% (7-25) from the three-point line while also shooting 76.2% (16-21) from the free throw line. The Thunder defense limited the Beavers to 29.6% (16-54) from the field and just 15.4% (2-13) from beyond the arc. The Beavers also struggled at the charity stripe, shooting 56.5% (13-24).
 
Wheaton took control of the game from the jump, using a 12-0 run after Bluffton scored the game's opening basket. Two free throws by Myroth capped the 12-point spurt as Wheaton held the host Beavers off the scoreboard for over five minutes. Wheaton would follow by scoring the next five points to lead 17-4 after the first quarter.
 
Early foul trouble in the second quarter opened the door for the Beavers to close the gap on the Thunder. After a Hannah Frazier jumper put Wheaton ahead 21-9, the Beavers answered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to pull Bluffton to within 21-19. Jennifer Berg's three-pointer closed the book on the run and was followed by 10 straight points from Frazier to stake Wheaton back to a comfortable lead at 34-21 at halftime.
 
Frazier continued her dominance into the second half, scoring 16 of Wheaton's 18 third quarter points. Her 16 points came consecutively, sandwiched between made free throws by Berg and Hannah Williams. The Thunder Preseason All-American added another six points in the final quarter, setting a new career-high with 36 points. When the dust settled, Frazier contributed 22 of Wheaton's 33 second half points as the Thunder cruised to a 67-47 victory over the Beavers.
 
Devin Kyler added nine points to go with 12 rebounds and six assists. Jordan Myroth also stuffed the stat line with six points and seven assists. Jennifer Berg finished with six points and eight rebounds. Brianna Gillig led the Beavers with 13 points.
