Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team, ranked 13
th in Division III, escaped with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in two overtimes against Augustana College at home on Friday evening.
Augustana's Andria Serra made the Vikings' first shot of the game count. Her goal at the 12:50 mark of the match was assisted by Hannah Rossi to give the guests a 1-0 lead. Thunder freshman
Sara Bakke (
VIDEO) evened the score at 1-1 when she collected the ball on a rebound and blasted the ball in for the game-tying goal. Bakke's goal came at the 39:04 mark of the match and was assisted by
Aeva Graber.
The match was tied at 1-1 at the halftime intermission. Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 9-3 in the half, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
Neither team scored in the second half of the match. Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 8-2 in the half, including a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Wheaton controlled play in the first overtime, with a 7-0 edge in shots with a 2-0 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts were unable to convert a shot into a goal in the first overtime.
Wheaton's second shot of the second overtime was a header by
Hannah Cockrum (
VIDEO) that she put in the back of the net on a long pass into the box from
Carney Blake. Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 2-1 in the final overtime.

Lauren Ketchum played 12:50 in the net for the Thunder with one goal allowed and one save.
Madison Lee made two saves, with no goals allowed in 90:48 minutes in goal. Augustana goalkeeper Sydney Ion made 10 saves, allowing two goals in 103:38 minutes of action.
