The Thunder women's soccer team defeats Elmhurst 3-0 in the CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinal

Wheaton, Ill. - The top seed Wheaton women's soccer team defeated Elmhurst, 3-0 on Wednesday night in the CCIW Tournament Semifinal at Joe Bean Stadium. Wheaton (16-3) advances to Saturday's CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament Championship at Joe Bean Stadium.

The Thunder face No. 3 seed Illinois Wesleyan (13-4-1) at 7:00 p.m. in the final on Saturday. The Titans defeated Augustana 2-1 on Wednesday in the tournament's other semifinal match.

Thunder senior Madison Peebles scored just 1:13 into the match (VIDEO). Chelsea Gnan's cross landed at Peebles' feet in front of the net and she re-directed the shot into the net for Wheaton's first goal. The Thunder led 1-0 at end of the first half. Wheaton out-shot the Bluejays 7-0 in the first half, including a 3-0 edge in shots on goal.

Thunder freshman Jensen Ellis (VIDEO) gave Wheaton a 2-0 lead with her first collegiate goal at the 57:41 mark of the match. Elllis' blast from the top of the 18-yard box landed over the arms of Elmhurst goalkeeper Sophia Tuliglowski, off a Peebles assist. Sophomore Isabelle Oliver (VIDEO)scored from the right corner of the six off a long cross cross from Nicole Wright. Oliver's goal at the 79:45 mark of the match accounted for the 3-0 final score. 

Thunder starting goalkeeer Lauren Ketchum played 80 minutes in net for the Thunder, with three saves an no goals allowed. Madison Lee played 10 minutes in goal for the Thunder. Elmhurst goalkeeper Sophia Tuliglowski made five saves, allowing two goals in 78 minutes of work. Bryce Marchetti played the final 12 minutes in net for the Bluejays, allowing one goal.

Wheaton owned a 16-3 edge in shots, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Wheaton was awarded five corner kicks in the match and Elmhurst had one.
