Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Wheaton Thunder wrestling team returned to action on Thursday with participation in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) "National Duals".

UW-La Crosse def. Wheaton 33-9
Wheaton opened up the tournament against UW-La Crosse and the Eagles topped the Thunder 33-9 in the matchup. Carlos Fuentez (PICTURED LEFT) won by fall at 4:11 against Nelson Baker in the matchup at 125-pounds. Senior Frank Aiello earned Wheaton's other victory against UW-LaCrosse as he defeated Mitchell Hertel in a 3-1 decision.

Wheaton def. Ferrum 19-18
Wheaton rallied to defeat Ferrum College 19-18 in the opening round of the consolation bracket. Wheaton advanced out of the round by earning a team point on tiebreaker criteria to face Olivet College in the second round of the consolation bracket. Fuentez won by injury default in his match against Brett Binnix at 125-pounds; Fuentez held a 9-5 lead at the time of the default. Jonavan Huggins picked up a 3-2 decision in overtime at 157-pounds against Braxton May Nicholson. Aiello won an 8-3 decision against Ferrum's Andrew Tolbert at 165-pounds. Isaac Odell earned a 5-2 decision over Antavian Leary at 184-pounds. The Thunder trailed the Panthers 18-15 heading into the match between Max Gierke and Ferrum's Alveno Matthews at 285-pounds. Gierke controlled the match and earned the 6-0 decision over Matthews, as Gierke's result forced an 18-18 tie and Wheaton advanced via a tiebraker.

Olivet def. Wheaton 24-18
Olivet ended Wheaton's participation in the tournament as the Comets won a tightly contested 24-18 match against the Thunder in the second round of the consolation bracket. Fuentez concluded the tournament with a 3-0 record as he defeated Jared Brickley in a 7-4 decision at 125-pounds. Aiello also had a 3-0 record on Thursday as he won by fall at the 2:50 mark of his match against Tyler Grimsley at 165-pounds. Isaac Odell pinned Olivet's Kamyab Kamali at the 4:15 mark of their match at 184-pounds and Gierke won a 10-3 decision against Jalen Mcferrin-Pace at 285-pounds.
