Women's basketball tops North Central 72-55 to earn its fifth-straight win

The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team picked up its fifth-straight victory on Saturday night with a 72-55 victory at North Central College (4-11, 2-4 CCIW). Tonight's victory, the 18th-consecutive Thunder win against North Central, improves Wheaton to 11-4 on the season and 5-2 in CCIW play.

31353Hannah Frazier (PICTURED LEFT) led the Thunder in scoring with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Frazier added four assists. Senior Maggie Dansdill scored 12 points with three steals. Kelly Lawson and Hannah Williams each scored eight points, with Lawson adding six rebounds.

30804Jennifer Berg scored seven points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, including five offensive boards. Berg's 13 caroms established a new career-high and marked the third time in her career the she collected a double-digit rebound total. Devin Kyler, Jill Berg (PICTURED RIGHT) and Kristi Demski each scored six points. Kyler collected seven rebounds as Jill Berg, Jordan Myroth and Lawson each had six rebounds. Myroth added five assists with four steals.

Wheaton never trailed in the contest, scoring the first six points of the game. The Thunder led the Cardinals 20-13 at the end of the first quarter. Demski's three-pointer with 1:30 remaining in the second quarter gave Wheaton a 28-20 lead that the Thunder held at the halftime intermission.

Wheaton was dominant in the third quarter, out-scoring the Cardinals 27-11. The decisive third quarter allowed Wheaton to hold a 55-31 lead the conclusion of the quarter. The Thunder held on in the fourth quarter to earn the 72-55 win.

Wheaton shot 40.9% (27-of-66) from the field, including 23.1% (6-of-26) from three-point range. The Cardinals posted a 32.2% (19-of-59) field goal percentage in the game, including 28.6% (8-for-28) behind the three-point arc. Wheaton shot 75% (12-of-16) at the free throw line and North Central had a 64.3% (9-of-14) effort at the charity stripe. Wheaton dominated the Cardinals on the glass with a 49-36 rebounding advantage, including a 14-8 edge on the offensive glass. North Central's 15 turnovers helped the Thunder out-score the Cardinals 16-5 in points off turnovers.

The Thunder return home on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. when Carroll University visits King Arena.
