Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team won its fourth-consecutive game on Wednesday night with a 73-56 victory at home against Augustana (9-5, 2-3 CCIW). Wheaton is now 10-4 on the year with a 4-2 record in CCIW play.
Hannah Frazier led four Wheaton player in double-digit scoring for the night with 18 points. The junior also grabbed 10 rebounds for a "double-double" and she blocked five shots with three assists.
Jordan Myroth (PICTURED LEFT) scored 12 points, with five rebounds and three assists for the hosts.
Devin Kyler scored 11 points, with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman
Hannah Williams scored 11 points off the Thunder bench.
Maggie Dansdill scored eight points, grabbed nine rebounds and distributed four assists.
Kelly Lawson collected 10 rebounds, with three assists.
Wheaton never trailed in the game and led the Vikings 13-6 at the conclusion of the first quarter. Wheaton's largest lead of the first half was a 12-point bulge at 27-15 with 2:40 left in the second quarter. The Thunder held a 28-21 lead at the halftime intermission.
A three-pointer by Lawson with 4:25 left in the third quarter gave Wheaton its largest lead of the game up to that point with a 16-point edge at 42-26. The Thunder led 45-34 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
The Thunder led by as many 26 points in the fourth quarter. Wheaton shot 68.8% (11-of-16) from the field in the final quarter, including 75% (3-of-4) from three-point range.
Wheaton tallied a 38.7% (29-of-75) field goal percentage in the game, including 27.3% (6-of-22) behind the three-point arc. Augustana shot 29.4% (20-of-68) from the field, including 30.8% (4-of-13) from three-point range. The Thunder shot 81.8% (9-of-11) at the free throw line and the Vikings had a 63.2% (12-of-19) effort at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the guests 57-42, including an 18-13 edge on the offensive glass.
Wheaton travels to North Central Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff against the Cardinals.
