St. Louis, Mo. – The Wheaton women's soccer team played top-ranked WashU to a 2-2 tie on Saturday afternoon in two overtimes. WashU is now 7-0-1 on the season and Wheaton is 3-3-2 for the 2017 campaign.
Wheaton scored the first goal of the match as
Morgan Whitman tallied a goal in the 21
st minute on a long shot from 20 yards out. Whitman's fourth goal of the year was assisted by
Sarah Gencarella. The Bears tied the match at 1-1 on a goal by Darcy Cunningham that was assisted by Taylor Cohen in the 24
th minute. The contest remained tied 1-1 at the halftime intermission. The Bears out-shot Wheaton 9-5 in the first half, including a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.

WashU responded early in the second half with Cohen's eighth goal of the year in the 48
th minute of the match. She collected a deflection and put it into the net off of a Cunningham assist. Thunder freshman
Isabelle Oliver (PICTURED LEFT) tied the match late in the contest with a goal in the 88
th minute. Whitman took a shot that was saved by WashU goalkeeper Katy Hutson and Oliver scored on the rebound of Hutson's save.

Kathryn McGregor made a save on a WashU shot attempt in the 94
th minute as the match went to a second overtime period. Cohen's header in the 105
th minute was heading into the back of the net when Thunder captain
Sarah Van Wingerden cleared it off the line to a WashU game-winning goal.
WashU attempted four shots in the second overtime, with McGregor making one save to preserve the 2-2 tie.
WashU attempted 27 shots in the match, including eight on goal. Wheaton had eight shots, with four shots on goal. McGregor made five saves and allowed two goals in her 110 minutes of action. Hutson made two saves and allowed two goals in her 110 minutes in the Bears' net.
Wheaton travels to No. 2 ranked University of Chicago on September 26 in Chicago.
