Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's soccer team dropped its final game of the 2017 Bob Baptista Invitational on Saturday night at Joe Bean Stadium. Loras (2-0) topped the Thunder 2-1 with all three of the night's goals coming in the second half.
The match was scoreless at the halftime intermission. The Duhawks out-shot the Thunder 11-4 in the opening half.
Loras' Lauren Bolnuis broke the scoreless tie just 2:30 into the second half as she tallied a goal off of a deflection. Bolnuis' goal gave Loras a 1-0 lead at the 47:30 mark. Wheaton tied the match at 1-1 just about a minute later when
Audrey Jensen scored off of
Anna Saunders' corner kick at the 48:32 mark.
Loras broke the tie at 55:49 when Elizabeth Mills scored off of a Gretchen Schutz assist for a 2-1 Duhawks lead. Mills' goal was the final score of the night as the Duhawks held on a for the 2-1 lead.
Wheaton out-shot the Duhawks 7-2 in the second half as Loras owned a 13-11 advantage in shots in the match. Thunder goalkeeper
Kathryn McGregor made five saves and allowed two goals in the match. Loras netminder Kaylee Coble made four saves and allowed just the one second half goal.
The Thunder will return to action next Friday at Roanoke College. Wheaton will wrap-up its two-game trip to Virginia at Lynchburg College on Saturday.
