Elmhurst, Ill. - The Thunder baseball team dropped a pitcher's dual at Elmhurst College on Friday night by a score of 3-2. The loss drops Wheaton to 20-15 overall and 10-9 in the CCIW. Elmhurst improves to 10-9 in conference play and 18-16 overall. Wheaton will return to action on Saturday with a noon doubleheader at North Central.
Wheaton scored its two runs on four hits with three errors. Elmhurst scored three runs on seven hits with no errors.
Alex Hanvey allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work.
Kyle Ferraro struck out seven and allowed two hits in four innings of relief.
Elmhurst jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning with an unearned run but Wheaton answered in the top of the third inning when
Peter Newman singled home
Nick Mailman to tie the score at 1-1. Elmhurst retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 3-1.
Wheaton wasted no time in responding with
Jacob Zeller leading off the top of the fifth inning with a walk. Zeller would score three batters later when
Johnny Peltz singled to center. Wheaton would go on to load the bases with one out but could not push the tying run across.
Peter Newman and
Johnny Peltz each had two hits to account for all four of Wheaton's hit.
Nick Mailman and
Jacob Zeller each scored a run.
