Naperville, Ill. - The Thunder baseball team overcame a three-hour rain delay to earn a key 9-3 victory at CCIW rival North Central. With the victory, Wheaton clinches the season-series between the two teams and improves to 21-15 on the seaon and 11-9 in CCIW play. North Central is now 15-14 overall and 10-7 in conference action. The final game of the series will be made up Monday, May 8 at 3:30 p.m. in Naperville.
Wheaton took advantage of six North Central errors to score nine runs on eight hits. North Central used two Wheaton errors to score three runs on seven hits.
Michael McCraith improved to 8-1 on the season by allowing one run and striking out eight in six innings of work. With the win, McCraith moves into a tie with Bill Bostrom (1963), Tom Fiddler (1985), Tim Urbanowicz (2009), and Drew Golz (2012) for the single season school record for wins.

A two-hour and 54-minute rain delay brought a halt to the proceedings in the middle of the third inning and North Central looked to take advantage right out of the break by loading the bases in the bottom of the third inning. McCraith (PICTURED RIGHT) was able to steal the momentum by wiggling out of trouble with the game still scoreless.
Brett Albaugh broke the scoreless tie with a no-doubt home run to left-center field in the top of the fourth inning for the game's first run. Wheaton followed with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on
Jacob Zeller's double and added two more runs on a pinch-hit single by
Seth Meyer in the top of the sixth inning to lead 5-1.
Two Cardinal errors in the top of the seventh inning extended the inning for
Ben Brittain who hammered a three-run homer to left field to push the Thunder lead to 8-1.
Jacob Lindstedt tacked on an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning before the Cardinals used two Wheaton errors for a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 9-3.
Brett Albaugh and
Ben Brittain led the Thunder offense with two hits including a home run apiece. Brittain drove in a team-high three runs.
Seth Meyer drove in a pair of runs and
Jacob Zeller and
Jacob Lindstedt each drove in a run.
Johnny Peltz scored a game-high three runs.
Wheaton will next be in action on Friday night when the Thunder travel Bloomington for the first of a three-game series against Illinois Wesleyan. Wheaton will return to Lee Pfund Stadium on Saturday for a 1 pm doubleheader with the Titans.
