Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton women's basketball wrapped up a perfect 2-0 start to its season on Saturday afternoon with an 89-56 victory over Louisiana College in the Beth Baker Classic. Wheaton trailed for only 11 seconds in handing the Lady Wildcats their first defeat of the season. Wheaton will continue its season-opening homestand on Tuesday, November 21, when the Thunder host Loras College for a 7 pm tipoff.
Wheaton's only deficit of the game came at 6-5 just over two minutes into the game. With the game tied at 10,
Jennifer Berg's three-pointer gave Wheaton the lead for good and sparked a 14-7 Thunder run to close the first quarter. Louisiana was able to hang around in the second quarter, cutting the lead to six on several occasions but a 9-2 Thunder run over the final three minutes of the second quarter gave the hosts a 42-29 halftime lead.
The second half proved to much of the same with Wheaton extending its lead to 64-42 after the third quarter and leading by as many as 34 points en route to the 89-56 victory.
The Thunder shot 48.5% (33-68) from the field and extended that effort to the three-point line where Wheaton made eight-of-18 attempts for a 44.4% clip. Wheaton was 15-of-21 (71.4%) at the charity stripe, mirroring Louisiana's effort from the free throw line. The Lady Wildcats shot 34.5% (20-58) from the field and just 7.7% (1-13) from beyond the arc. Wheaton won the rebounding battle 43-34 and tallied 10 steals with 13 blocks.
Hannah Frazier scored a game-high 20 points to go with seven rebounds in an effort that earned her All-Tournament honors. Maggie Dansdill was named the Tournament MVP, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds. Jill Berg had 13 points and three blocks and Devin Kyler tallied 10 points and three blocks.
