Women's basketball earns a commanding 78-52 victory against Loras

The Wheaton women's basketball team (3-0) earned a 78-52 victory at home on Tuesday night against Loras College (2-1).

30302Hannah Frazier led the Thunder with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor tonight. The Thunder sophomore added five assists and four rebounds. Maggie Dansdill scored 12 points with four rebounds. Devin Kyler (PICTURED LEFT) tallied 11 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals in a terrific all-around effort. Jill Berg and Kelly Lawson each scored nine points for the Thunder; Berg added five blocked shots. Jennifer Berg scored seven points with three assists. Sophomore Jordan Myroth distributed five assists.

Wheaton jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the first five minutes of tonight's game, helping lead the Thunder to an 18-10 advantage at the conclusion of the first quarter.

The Duhawks scored the first five points of the second quarter to trim Wheaton's advantage to 18-15 with 9:10 remaining in the first half. The Thunder responded with a 14-3 lead to give the hosts a 14-point bulge at 32-18 with 4:50 left in the second quarter. The key Thunder run allowed the hosts to lead Loras 38-25 at the halftime intermission.

Wheaton maintained a double-digit lead for the entire second half. Wheaton's 26-point lead in the 78-52 final score marked the hosts' largest lead of the night.

Wheaton shot 48.5% (32-of-66) from the field, including 26.1% (6-for-23) from three-point range. Loras recorded a 37.5% (21-of-56) field goal percentage, including 25% (5-of-20) behind the three-point arc. Wheaton shot 80% (8-of-10) at the free throw line and the Duhawks had a 71.4% (5-of-7) effort at the charity stripe. Loras out-rebounded the Thunder 40-31, including a 13-8 edge on the offensive glass.

Hanna Stoked led the Duhawks with 11 points and Addie Oberman tallied 10 points. Cyerra Hutchins grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Oberman led the guests with five assists.

Wheaton returns to action next Wednesday when University of Chicago visits King Arena for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff in King Arena.
