Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Wheaton men's and women's swim teams traveled to Calvin College on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet against the Knights. The Knights were able to sweep the Thunder with the women's team outscoring Wheaton 176-86 and the men's team edging the Thunder 153-109. Wheaton won nine events on Saturday including six men's events and three women's events.
Freshman Will Rinne highlighted the Thunder results by winning three individual races. Rinne captured the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 58.72 seconds to top the field by nearly three seconds and record the ninth-fastest time in program history. In the 500-yard freestyle, Rinne won a tightly contested race with a one-second victory in a time of 4:47.24. In the 200-yard individual medley, the rookie touched the wall in 1:56.29. Senior
Chris Dingfield won two events, earning first place honors in the 100-yard (52.04) and 200-yard butterfly (1:55.70). Chris Szymczak won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:55.84, earning his victory by a margin of over seven seconds.
Michaela Sandeno earned a four-second victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.36. Sandeno also won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:33.42. Bethany Doyle earned first place honors in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.79.
Wheaton will be back in action next weekend when the Thunder participate in the University of Chicago Fall Classic.
