Men's soccer battles back to earn 2-2 draw at Millikin

Decatur, Ill. - The Thunder men's soccer team wrapped up its CCIW schedule on Saturday night by coming from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Millikin University. Wheaton runs its record to 8-8-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in conference play. Millikin is now 4-10-2 and 1-5-1 in the CCIW. Wheaton will conclude its season on Saturday with a nonconference match against Finlandia University on Saturday night at 7 pm.

Wheaton finished the match with a 21-10 shot advantage including a 13-7 edge in shots on goal. Hasten Biddlecome allowed two goals and made five saves for Wheaton. Trevor Creek made 11 saves while allowing two goals for the Big Blue.

Millikin took an early lead on Wednesday night, scoring in the 10th minute to take the 1-0 lead. Wheaton threatened to equal in the next minutes, forcing Creek to make three saves in the ensuing two minutes. Creek answered the call again late in the half to preserve the 1-0 Millikin lead into the halftime break.

Max Carey provided the equalizer with his seventh goal of the season in the 60th minute to knot things at 1-1. Will Woodfin came inches away from giving the Thunder a lead in the 65th minute when his shot rattled the woodwork with a shot off the post. A Wheaton foul in the 79th minute opened the door for MIllikin to retake the lead on Trey Knighton's penalty kick, giving the Big Blue a 2-1 lead.

Three minutes later, Woodfin was able to find the net for a late equalizer with an assist from AJ Moyes, pulling Wheaton even once again at 2-2. Creek was able to answer the bell several times in the final minutes of the second half and each overtime to preserve the draw.
