Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton (9-8-1) men's soccer team closed out the 2017 regular season on Saturday night with a 9-0 victory at home against Finlandia University (6-9). The nine goals scored by the Thunder is the most goals in a single game for Wheaton since a 9-1 victory against North Central on October 6, 2006, a span of 253 matches.
Wheaton led 4-0 at halftime of tonight's match against the Lions.
Max Carey scored in the seventh minute on a
Jacob Kapitaniuk assist for a 1-0 lead.
Chad Swieca increased Wheaton's lead to 2-0 when he converted a penalty kick in the 15
th minute.
Drew Shay scored in the 26
th minute and
Shane Kopplin scored on an
Austin Pack assist in the 34
th minute to give Wheaton a 4-0 advantage.
Kolby Versage scored in the 55
th minute off an
Andrew Wade assists and Shay tallied his second goal of the night thanks to an assist by Wade in the 58
th minute. Pack scored on an
AJ Moyes assist in the 65
th minute to increase Wheaton's lead to 7-0. Kopplin extended the Thunder lead to 8-0 with a goal in the 75
th minute and
Chase Gwynn tallied his first career goal in the 80
th minute off of an assist by
John Steiner.

Hasten Biddlecome,
Justin Majeski and
Drew Cammarano all played in goal for the Thunder. Finlandia goalkeeper Patrick Miles made 13 saves for the Lions.
Wheaton out-shot the Lions 40-2, including a 22-0 edge in shots on goal. The Thunder had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.
