Decatur, Ill. – The Wheaton volleyball team traveled to
No. 25-ranked Millikin on Tuesday night for a CCIW matchup with the Big Blue. The hosts defeated the Thunder 3-1 with Wheaton winning the first set 25-22 and the Big Blue picking up 25-12, 25-22 and 25-19 victories in the final three sets to close out the win.

Freshman
Meghan Lacey led the Thunder with 13 kills tonight and she added 10 digs.
Shelby Knowles (PICTURED LEFT) tallied 10 kills with 15 digs and two service aces.
Katie Rohrer added six kills for the guests.
Ashley Torok distributed 23 assists and
Kelly Thornton had 12 assists. Sophomore
Jessica Bosse led the Thunder with 18 digs and
Emily Potts had two assisted blocks with one solo block.
Wheaton won the first set tonight 25-22. Millikin took a 5-4 lead in the opening set, however the Thunder out-scored the Big Blue 8-2 to give Wheaton a 12-7 lead. The Thunder never trailed for the remainder of the set. Lacey had a team-high four kills in the set as
Madeline Moore and Rohrer each had three kills.
Millikin jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second set and never trailed. Lacey had four kills in the set and she added five digs.
The hosts never trailed in the third set. Knowles and Lacey each had three kills in the set. Torok distributed seven assists in the set and Knowles tallied two service aces.
Millikin closed out the match with a 25-19 victory in the decisive fourth set. The set was tied 13-13 when Millikin out-scored the Thunder 7-2 to take a 20-15 lead and pulled away for the win. Knowles had a team-high five kills in the fifth set, Torok had five assists and Bosse had four digs.

Brittany Smith noted after the match, "While we were able to take the first set from MU, it was disappointing to see our efforts as the match continued." She concluded, "While the team had moments of aggressive response, it was not enough and too late. This was a good lesson for us, one we intend to learn from and become better from it."
The Thunder will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday for a tri-match at Coe College. The Thunder will face MacMurray at 1:00 p.m. and Wheaton will take on the host Kohawks of Coe College at 3:00 p.m.
