Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Thunder volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at Coe College's Tri-Match.
The Thunder defeated MacMurray, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-23) in Wheaton's opening match. Coe topped the Thunder, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) in the final matchup of the afternoon.
Senior
Shelby Knowles (PICTURED ABOVE) led the Thunder in the win against MacMurray with 12 kills and
Emily Potts added six kills, while
Madeline Moore and
Meghan Lacey each had five kills.
Ashley Torok distributed 27 assists and Knowles had a team-high four service aces. Knowles led the Thunder with 17 digs in the win and
Jessica Bosse added 13 digs.
Knowles and Lacey tied for the team lead against Coe with 10 kills apiece. Torok recorded 15 assists in the match and
Kelly Thornton had 14 assists. Bosse recorded 13 digs with two service aces. Knowles registered 12 digs and Lacey added 10 digs. Potts had one solo block and four assisted blocks.

Brittany Smith mentioned of Saturday's performance, "It felt great to get a win in three straight sets to start the day. While we would have liked to go 2-0, we fell short in our second match with missed opportunities. We have put a lot of hard work in, but we still are waiting for that hard work to pay off, but we are staying persistent and dedicated in the process."
Wheaton will travel to North Park on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Vikings in conference play.
