UW-Eau Claire tops the Thunder volleyball team, 3-1

Stevens Point, Wis. – The Thunder volleyball team opened up play on Friday at the CCIW/WIAC Crossover tournament with a matchup against UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds defeated the Thunder 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19).

Shelby Knowles led the Thunder 11 kills against UW-Eau Claire. Hannah Japp tallied 10 kills and Katie Rohrer registered eight kills. Amanda Smith and Meghan Lacey each registered seven kills. Senior Ashley Torok distributed a team-high 25 assists and Kelly Thornton had 18 assists. Jessica Bosse led the squad with 18 digs, Knowles had 16 and Lacey added 10 digs.

Wheaton will return to action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in a match against UW-Stout and close out participation in the tournament against 11th-ranked UW-Stevens Point.
