Men's soccer plays to 2-2 tie at Aurora

Aurora, Ill. - The Thunder men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw at Aurora University on Monday afternoon. With the tie, Wheaton is now 1-4-2 on the season. Aurora moves to 3-3-1.

In a wide open game, Wheaton was out-shot 20-14 including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Aurora outshot the Thunder 12-6 in the second half with Andrew Beard making six saves in the half. Beard made seven total saves in the match and allowed two goals in 110 minutes. Aurora's Zach McFarland made three saves and allowed both Wheaton goals.

The Spartans jumped to an early lead on Ben Edith's seventh goal of the season off a through ball from Oscar Suarez. Aurora's 1-0 lead would hold until the second half.

Early in the second half, Cedric Kamaleson tied the game at 1-1 with his first career goal in the 52nd minute of action. The Spartans answered four and a half minutes later on Nick Cataldi's first goal of the season to retake the lead 2-1.

Twenty minutes later, Drew Shay slid a crossing pass on the ground to Tyler Robbins who scored his first goal of the season and tie the action at 2-2.

The offense slowed in the overtime periods with Wheaton outshooting Aurora 2-1 in both overtime periods but neither team could find the net bringing the game to a close at 2-2.

Wheaton will return to the pitch on Wednesday evening when the Thunder travel to Benedictine to face the Eagles at 7 PM.
