Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer battles Kalamazoo to scoreless draw

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's soccer team closed its participation in the Bob Baptista Invitational on Saturday night by settling for a scoreless draw against the Kalamazoo Hornets. The draw moves Wheaton to 1-2-1 on the season while Kalamazoo is now 0-1-2. Wheaton will next be in action on Tuesday when the Thunder travel to Chicago to take on the University of Chicago Maroons.

Wheaton held an 11-8 shot advantage with a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. Kalamazoo took four corner kicks with Wheaton only getting a series of three corners in a row early in the second half. Andrew Beard earned his first clean sheet of the season with one save in 110 minutes of work between the pipes. Kalamazoo's Griffin Hamel made four saves in a shutout effort.

The best opportunity for either team came midway through the first half when rookie Jacob Kapitaniuk sprung unmarked on a run down the middle of the field and was on the receiving end of Drew Shay's cross from the right wing. With only the keeper to beat and plenty of open net, Kapitaniuk's shot slid harmlessly wide left. Max Carey had an opportunity for a flick-on header in the the 51st minute that flew over the crossbar.

Neither team seriously threatened during the overtime periods.
