Chicago, Ill. - The Wheaton men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match at the University of Chicago on Tuesday night. The Maroons, ranked fourth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 poll, improved to 5-0 on the season while Wheaton falls to 1-3-1. Chicago has now recorded a shutout in all five of its matches this season.
Andrew Beard made four saves and allowed two goals in net for the Thunder while Chicago's Bonin Hill was not troubled in his 90 minutes of work. The Maroons outshot Wheaton 10-3 on the game and put six shots on goal while Wheaton was not able to muster a shot on frame during the match.
Chicago broke the scoreless tie midway through the first half when Gary Zhao was sent open for a breakaway behind the Wheaton defense on a through ball from Max Lopez and Sam Drablos to put the Maroons up 1-0. Brenton-Neal Desai doubled Chicago's lead in the 48th minute on a one one one win set-up by David McBroom.
Wheaton will next be in action on Friday night when the Thunder travel to St. Louis to face the Washington University-St. Louis Bears at 7 PM.
