Albion, Mich. -
The Thunder softball team extended its win streak to six games on Monday with a doubleheader sweep at Albion College (6-28). The Thunder won the opener 9-1 and closed out the sweep with a 12-2 victory in the nightcap. Today's matchup was originally scheduled for March, however that date was postponed and the doubleheader was re-scheduled for today. Wheaton (27-9) will wrap up its regular season schedule on Thursday at home with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against University of Chicago.

21194Wheaton won the first game today 9-1 in six innings. The Thunder scored nine runs, on 13 hits, with no errors and the Britons tallied one run, on four hits with three errors. Senior starting pitcher Katie Thornton (20-5) earned the victory in six innings. Thornton (PICTURED LEFT) allowed one earned run, on four hits, with eight strikeouts and she had no walks.

Hannah Clark was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Alyssa Leonard was 2-for-4, scoring a pair of runs. Megan Neuhaus was 2-for-4 with a double as she drove in two runs and scored a run. Katie Thornton was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Neuhaus hit a one-out double in the top of the first inning and scored two batters later on an Albion error in the middle infield. Neuhaus' run gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder increased its lead to 4-0 with three runs in the top of the second inning. A two-run single to left field by Neuhaus increased the guests' lead to 3-0 and Katie Thornton added a RBI-single to right field to move Wheaton's lead to 4-0.

Albion tallied its lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the Wheaton lead to 4-1. Senior Christina Sandstedt hit a home run in the top of the fifth inning to increase Wheaton's lead to 5-1.

Kelly Thornton drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI-single. Katie and Kelly Thornton each scored a run on an Albion error and with the bases loaded Emily Bonga was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to bring Ellen Radandt home for Wheaton's 9-1 lead. Katie Thornton forced the Britons to go three-up-and-three down in the bottom of sixth inning to end the game on the eight-run rule.

16722Wheaton won the nightcap 12-2 as the Thunder registered 12 runs, on 15 hits, with three errors and Albion scored three runs, on one error. Starting pitcher Kendall Kehres (4-2) earned the win in five innings. Kehres (PICTURED RIGHT) allowed two runs, with no earned runs, on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Kelly Thornton was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double as she drove in two RBI and a run scored. Lyndsey Pritchard was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Hannah Clark was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Katie Yergler was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Catcher Ellen Radandt was 2-for-3, with a home run, three RBI and a run scored. Neuhaus was 2-for-3 with three RBI as she hit her sixth double of the season. Leonard was 2-for-3 with a double as she drove in three runs and scored three times.

Wheaton broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with a pair of runs. Leonard led off the inning with a single and Radandt connected with a two-run home run to give the Thunder the lead.

21231The Thunder added four runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 6-0. The bases were loaded when Leonard was hit by a pitch to drive in a run and Neuhaus had a RBI on a sacrifice fly. Radandt connected with a single through the left side to drive in a run.

Wheaton extended its lead to 12-0 with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. The fifth-inning outburst was highlighted by a two-run double for Leonard, a two-run double by Neuhaus and a two-run home run by Kelly Thornton (PICTURED LEFT). The Briton scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom fifth inning on a RBI-single, but it wasn't enough to extend the game that ended after five on the eight-run rule.

Note Worthy: The three home runs today team moved the team into sole possession of first place on the program's single-season home run list with 30 this year, to break a tie for first that existed with the 2015 squad at 27 home runs…Sandstedt moved into second place on Wheaton's single-season home run list with eight on the year, just one behind the nine homers belted by Trinity Pierce in 2006.
