Elmhurst, Ill. - The Thunder wrestling team competed in its first dual match of the 2016-17 season on Wednesday night in a matchup at conference rival Elmhurst College. Elmhurst defeated the Thunder 35-12 in the match as Wheaton picked up wins in the final three matches of the evening.
Wheaton sophomore
Max Gierke (PICTURED ABOVE) won the final match of the night. Early in the second round of his matchup against Luis Montoya at 285-pounds, Gierke pinned Montoya.
Mikey Swider shut out Mark Miller at 197-pounds as the All-American won a 3-0 decision against Miller. Wheaton's third winner of the night was senior
Jared Fekete who scored two points on a reversal in the third period to earn a 2-1 decision against Leo Ortiz at 184-pounds.
