Wheaton, Ill. –
The Thunder women's soccer team faced University of Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon in a battle of nationally-ranked opponents in the final day of the Bob Baptista Invitational. Puget Sound capitalized on two second-half goals to pick up a 2-1 win against the Thunder. The Loggers (2-0) entered today's matchup ranked 17th in the NSCAA Division III Preseason Coaches Poll and Wheaton (2-1) was ranked 18th in the same poll.

The two teams played through a scoreless first half. Wheaton had two shots in the opening half and Puget Sound collected one.

Puget Sound's Tayla MacPherson scored in the 61st minute to give the guests a 1-0 lead. The Loggers continued to pressure Wheaton and it paid off in the 76th minute as Laura Morton increased the Puget Sound lead to 2-0 with a goal on a shot from about eight yards out.

Wheaton furiously attempted a rally and Wheaton put its first goal on the scoreboard in the 89th minute as Ally Witt put the ball in the back of the net from about three yards out. A double-assist from Morgan Whitman and Annie Wooldridge contributed to the Witt goal.

Wheaton held an 11-7 edge in shot attempts in the match and the Thunder owned a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Thunder netminder Abbey Fuster allowed two goals with one save in 90 minutes of work in the hosts' net. Puget Sound netminder Lauren Thomas made two saves and allowed one Witt's late goal.

Wheaton will be off until next weekend when it travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a tournament at Carnegie Mellon University with contests against Allegheny College (Friday) and Carnegie Mellon (Saturday)
