#17-Thunder women's soccer team falls to eighth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan, 1-0

Wheaton, Ill – The Wheaton College women's soccer team dropped its first CCIW match of the 2015 season on Saturday with a  tough 1-0 loss to eighth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan (14-1, 4-0 CCIW).

Wheaton is now 11-4 overall and 3-1 on the year as the Thunder had it five-game winning-streak snapped with today's loss. Wheaton will travel to University of Chicago for a non-conference match with the Maroons on October 21 at 3:30 p.m.

Wheaton possessed early in the match with two shot attempts. The advantage began to switch to the Titans following about 15-20 minutes of play with three consecutive shot attempts for the guests. The Titans broke through with a goal at the 30:22 mark of the match when Tess Bottorff headed the ball into the net off of an assist from Mary Kate Schmidt. The Titans' offense continued to pressure Wheaton in the final minutes of the first half, but Thunder goalkeeper Abbey Fuster made two saves as Wheaton held on. IWU led the Thunder 1-0 at halftime. Illinois Wesleyan owned an 11-6 advantage in shots in the first half.

The Titans controlled the ball throughout the second half as it gave the guests a 10-1 advantage in shots in the final 45 minutes. Fuster played well in the stretch with four saves in the second half. The IWU advantage in possession and the strong Titans' defense allowed the guests to earn the 1-0 victory.

Illinois Wesleyan owned a 21-7 edge in shots today, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Fuster played well in goal for Wheaton as she made six saves. Illinois Wesleyan netminder Katie Denney stopped three Wheaton shots.
