Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team dropped its first match of the 2014 season on Wednesday night in a 3-0 loss at home to Aurora University. Wheaton is now 6-1 on the year, while Aurora improves to 4-3. Wheaton will travel to Loras on Saturday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. match with the Duhawks.
Aurora's Nicci Bermudes scored all three Spartan goals tonight. Bermudes put the ball into the net at the opposite post on an assist from Brittany Roydhouse in the 16th minute. Bermudes netted her second goal in the 21st minute off of a Roydhouse assist. Aurora led the Thunder 2-0 at halftime.
Bermudes' third goal of the night came in the 58th minute when she deposited another Roydhouse assist into the back of the net.
Wheaton out-shot the Spartans 20-13 in the match, including an 11-6 advantage in the second half. Wheaton was awarded seven corner kicks and the Spartans had none. Aurora goalkeeper Rachel Warnock made nine saves in posting the shutout. Wheaton netminder
