Montclair, N.J.
- An onslaught of Golz proved to be too much on Saturday night as the #20-ranked Thunder men's soccer team closed it's weekend on the East Coast with a 5-3 victory at #14-ranked Montclair State. Wheaton finishes the trip with 12 goals scored in two games, almost doubling its goal total from its first five matches. With the victory, Wheaton improves to 5-2 on the season while the Red Hawks dropped their home opener, falling to 3-2. Wheaton will continue its string of road matches on Wednesday night when the Thunder head downstate to take on the Greenville Panthers at 7 PM.

14184Wheaton used its 18-9 shot advantage to hold an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Thunder took four of the game's six corner kick.  Matt Paprocki made three saves and allowed three goals for the Thunder. Michael Gonzalez made five saves but allowed five goals for the Red Hawks.

Montclair State nearly turned the game's first shot into the game's first goal wehn Kyle Goodwin hit the post 33 seconds into the match and Damian Bziukiwciz' rebound shot sailed high. Five minutes, later Adam Blackman's cross from the right side of the box found Jordan Golz who scored his second goal of the season and started a brief blitzkrieg by the Thunder. Just under two minutes later, Blackman's cross found Stephen Golz for a header goal to make it 2-0, just 7:48 into the match. Two minutes later, it was Stephen Golz again who collected the ball in the box and scored his fifth goal of the season to make the score 3-0 at the 10:06. For Stephen Golz (PICTURED RIGHT) it was his second consecutive two-goal game.

Two minutes later the Red Hawks started their comeback when Kyle Goodwin found Mike Olla who's shot to the near post cut the deficit to 3-1. Goodwin was the initiator again in the 32nd minute when he found Ryan Morris for a header goal to cut the lead to 3-2. At the 38:36 mark a penalty kick by Lucas Terci erased Wheaton's hot start entirely and tied the game at 3-3. Stephen Golz nearly had the hat trick late in the first half but his header attempt was cleared off the line by the head of Maxx Wurzburger to send the game to halftime tied at 3-3.

14182Early in the second half, a defensive mix-up by the Red Hawks led to a loose ball in the box, which Noah Anthony placed in the back of the net to prove Wheaton with a 4-3 cushion in the 51st minute. Gonzalez was up to the task several more times throughout the second half but Wheaton finally added a goal of cushion in the 86th minute when Jordan Golz (PICTURED LEFT) found Marshall Hollingsworth on the right side and his shot to the right post tickled the twine to make the score 5-3. Content to sit on its lead, the Thunder ran out the clock for the 5-3 victory.

Note Worthy: Wheaton's seven-goal performance on Friday against Brooklyn College was the most since the Thunder registered eight goals against North Central on Oct. 29, 2007...The 12 goals scored in consecutive matches is the highest totals since Wheaton scored 13 goals in consecutive victories over North Central (9-1) and Illinois Wesleyan (4-0) on October 6 and 11, 2006...Stephen Golz' second goal tonight was the junior's 25th career goal and his sixth career multi-goal game...tonight was just the second time Stephen Golz and Jordan Golz scored a goal in the same match (Oct. 8, 2013 @ Aurora).
