#20-Men's Soccer cruises past Brooklyn College 7-1

. - The #20-ranked Thunder men's soccer team opened its weekend in the Big Apple with a 7-1 victory over the Brooklyn College Bulldogs on Friday afternoon. Six different goal scorers accounted for Wheaton's seven goals as the Thunder improved to 4-2 on the season while the Bulldogs fell to 1-5. Wheaton will conclude its weekend trip with a Saturday night game at #14-Montclair State at 7 PM (EDT).

Wheaton outshot the Bulldogs 34-8 in the match with a 16-6 edge in shots on goal. The Thunder held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Matt Paprocki allowed one goal and made three saves in 64:17 in net. Matt Prior made two saves and did not allow a goal in the final 25:43. Ilya Keygen allowed seven goals and made nine saves in 90 minutes between the pipes for Brooklyn.

The Thunder cracked the scoreboard early on Friday afternoon when Stephen Golz stole the ball from a Bulldog defender and beat the keeper one-on-one to put Wheaton ahead 1-0 in the seventh minute. Three minutes later Marshall Hollingsworth made it 2-0 with his second goal of the season. Brooklyn was able to cut the deficit in half when a failed clearance led to a goal for Marco Thimm-Kaiser, making it 2-1 in the 25th minute.

14162A handball in the box drew a penalty kick opportunity for the Thunder at the 30:45 mark and Brendan Finnerty took advantage with his first goal of the season. Cole Lenderink's first career goal off a Colby Versage assist in the 38th minute accounted for Wheaton's 4-1 halftime lead.

The offense continued its attack in the second half when Max Carey (PICTURED RIGHT) scored his first career goal off free kick opportunity in the 67th minute. Golz followed with his second goal of the match off a Lenderink assist in the 84th minute and Trevor Adams closed the scoring with his first goal of the season on an assist from Jordan Golz in the 89th minute.

Wheaton will head to New Jersey on Saturday night when the Thunder face the #14-ranked Red Hawks of Montclair State (3-1) at 7 PM (EDT).
