The Thunder women's soccer team tops Alma College 6-2

The seventh-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team earned a 6-2 victory against Alma College on Saturday afternoon in the final day of action at the 2014 Bob Baptista Invitational. Wheaton is now 2-0 on the season and will return to action on Sept. 5 against College of St. Scholastica.
 
13907Wheaton was in control throughout the match and the Thunder struck early with a goal by Ally Witt from in front of the net off of a Sydney Sharkey assist at the 12-minute mark of the match. Alma's Macayla Greiner evened the match at 1-1 with a goal in the 28th minute. Wheaton regained the lead in the 30th minute when a Sydney Sharkey assist again resulted in a Thunder goal, this time for Sarah Frey (PICTURED LEFT). Wheaton maintained a 2-1 lead at the halftime intermission.
 
Witt extended Wheaton's lead to 3-1 in the 61st minute when she booted the ball into an open net off of an assist from Frey. Senior Anna Seabolt blasted in a goal from well outside the 18-yard box in the 63rd minute to extend Wheaton's lead to 4-1. Frey recorded her second goal of the night in the 74th minute thanks to a Kendall Eitreim assist. Alma's Kelly Wilson scored in the 83rd minute to cut Wheaton's lead to 5-2. The final outcome of 6-2 was the result of a Kathryn McGregor goal in the 90th minute on an assist from Mary Pettit.
 
Wheaton out-shot the Scots 35-22 in the match, including an 18-9 advantage in the first half. Wheaton attempted seven corner kicks in the match and Alma was awarded three. Wheaton goalkeeper Abbey Fuster made five saves and allowed one first-half goal in 78 minutes of work in the net. Mary Daghfal worked 12 minutes between the pipes, allowing one second-half goal, with one save. Alma netminder Jenna Fassbender made 15 saves and allowed six goals on the night. Tonight's victory moves Wheaton to a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series with Alma
