Thunder softball splits a conference doubleheader with #17-ranked Augustana

(5-5) earned the win in six innings of work. Thornton (PICTURED RIGHT) allowed three runs, on seven hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. Freshman pitcher
Stacy Cladis
(PICTURED LEFT) was 3-for-3 in the win. She hit a pair of doubles, drove in three runs and scored once. Abby Coster was 3-for-3, with a pair of runs scored for the Thunder. Christina Sandstedt was 2-for-4. With a pair of runs scored and two RBI. Sandstedt hit a double for the hosts.
 
Augustana took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Wheaton tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as RBI-double by Cladis drove in the game-tying run for the hosts. Augustana regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning with a run to take a 3-2 advantage. Wheaton rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning with five runs to take a 7-3 lead. Sandstedt and Cladis hit back-to-back two-run doubles to highlight the Thunder effort in the inning.  
 
Augustana won the second game 10-3 as the Vikings scored 10 runs, on 15 hits, with one error and Wheaton tallied three runs, on five hits, with two errors. Starting pitcher Marissa Voss (2-4) took the loss in one inning as she allowed four runs, on four hits, with two walks. Abby Butler allowed two runs, on five hits. Katie Thornton pitched three innings as she allowed four runs, including three earned runs, on six hits, with two walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore centerfielder Katie Yergler accounted for three of Wheaton's five hits in the game. She was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored
 
Wheaton scored all three of its runs in the game in the top of the first inning. Yergler led off with a double to centerfield. She scored as the result of a Viking error on a ball hit by Jessica Goeke in the next at bat. Goeke scored when Sandstedt hit a RBI-double and Sandstedt crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Katie Thornton.
