Thunder softball drops a pair against Augustana at home

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton softball team hosted Augustana on Friday afternoon for a CCIW doubleheader. The Vikings swept the Thunder as Augustana won the first game 4-1 and the guests accomplished the sweep with a 10-1 victory in five innings in the second game.

Augustana won today's first game 4-1 as the Vikings scored four runs, on nine hits, with zero errors, and Wheaton plated one run, on five hits, with one error. Thunder starting pitcher Shylah Dozeman pitched all seven innings as she allowed four runs, including three earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Dozeman helped her own cause at the plate as she was 2-for-3 with a double.

Augustana scored a run in the top of the third inning to break a scoreless tie. The Vikings scored one run in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to go up 4-0. Mia Reinhard drove in Wheaton's lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the 4-1 final score.

The Vikings won the second game 10-1 in five innings. The guests scored 10 runs, on 14 hits, with no errors, and Wheaton had one run, on four hits, with zero errors.

Thunder sophomore Soleil Weaver hit her first career home run in the nightcap. Weaver was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI. Kennedy Kemp, Ava Hartnett and Dozeman each added a single for the Thunder offense.

Augustana scored twice in the top of the second inning and scored twice more in the top of the fourth inning to gain a 4-0 lead. The guests scored six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 10-0 lead. Weaver blasted her first career home run over the fence in left centerfield in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wheaton concludes the home portion of its schedule on Saturday as the Thunder host North Park at 1:00 p.m. for a "Senior Day" doubleheader. "Senior Day" ceremonies will begin at approximately 12:40 p.m.
