Wheaton softball sweeps a doubleheader with Trinity Christian

GAME STATS 1 | GAME STATS 2 PICTURED ABOVE:
Jessika Russi
(8-8) worked seven innings to earn the win. She allowed just one hit, with nine strikeouts and one walk.Today's effort was Thornton's second career complete game one-hitter, joining a seven-inning one-hitter that she tossed against Franklin & Marshall on March 12, 2013.

Wheaton and Thornton worked out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the top of the third inning. The first two TCC batters reached on Wheaton errors and a fielder's choice loaded the bases on the first three batters of the third inning. Wheaton recorded a force-out at home on the next two at bats and Thornton induced a groundout to get the third out of the inning and secure the scoreless tie.

Wheaton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of fourth inning as Stacey Cladis hit a leadoff double to right field and two batters later she scored on a double by pinch hitter Jessika Russi (PICTURED LEFT) to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead. Alyssa Leonard hit a two-run double to left field that scored Jessica Goeke and Katie Yergler to account for the 3-0 score that would be the final outcome.

Russi was 2-for-2 with a RBI in the game as she belted a pair of doubles. Alyssa Leonard was 2-for-3 in the contest with two runs driven in as she belted a double.
