Thunder softball drops a pair of one-run games to #21-ranked UChicago

worked out of trouble in the top of the seventh inning to keep the score at 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Katie Yergler led off with a single that rolled past the center fielder allowing Yergler to advance to third. Goeke (PICTURED RIGHT) followed with a triple to right to cut the lead to 4-3 and put the tying run 60 feet away with no outs. Following a groundout to second, Alyssa Leonard chopped a grounder back to the pitcher who threw home to cut down Goeke at the plate. Stacey Cladis singled and moved up to second on the throw challenging Leonard at third but Wheaton could not get the tying run home and ended up on the short side of the 4-3 score.

Marissa Voss took the loss for Wheaton in four innings of work, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits with one walk. Abby Butler allowed one run on five hits with one walk in three innings of relief.
