Thunder softball splits a twinbill at Lake Forest as Wheaton posts a one-hitter in a 4-0 win

Christina Sandstedt
led off the game for the Thunder with a single and advanced to second base on an error. She moved to third on a passed ball and scored when senior Jessica Goeke reached on an error by Lake Forest to give Wheaton an early 1-0 lead. 

After Thornton got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first inning without allowing a run, Jessika Russi's single knocked in Lyndsey Pritchard with one out in the top of the second inning to put the Thunder ahead 2-0. 

Sophomore Christina Sandstedt (PICTURED LEFT) made it 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning with a two-out single that scored Goecke and Russi. 

Jessi Werner (10-4) took the loss for Lake Forest. She allowed four runs (three earned) with two strikeouts and two walks in seven innings pitched. 

Game two saw Wheaton score one run with two hits and one error, while the Foresters scored eight runs on twelve hits and one error in an 8-1 victory for the hosts. Freshman Marisa Voss (2-5) took the loss for the Thunder. She allowed two runs and three hits while walking three in two innings. Butler started the game in the circle and pitched the first two innings before returning to pitch in the in the fifth and sixth innings. Butler allowed six runs on nine hits with one strikeout in four innings total. 

The game was scoreless entering the fifth inning. Junior Becky Leone led off the top of the fifth inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Voss and scored when Yergler reached base on a throwing error to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lake Forest scored seven runs to take control of the game. Voss allowed a walk and a double to open the inning before Butler returned to pitch. The Foresters' big inning continued, culminating in Alex Hemmer's two-run home.

Wheaton will next play on the road against Elmhurst College in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3:00 5:00 pm.
