Wheaton softball teams sweeps Millikin with dramatic wins

. The Big Blue scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to runs by Becca Thompson and Marissa Padilla that gave the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Wheaton tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning as Alyssa Leonard doubled to right field to put the tying run in scoring position. Becky Leone then reached on an error while Leonard scored the run to even the game at 2-2.

Wheaton took the lead for good in the top of the 10th inning thanks to Lyndsey Pritchard's solo home run.

Milikin starting pitcher Taylor Hull (13-7) pitched all ten innings and allowed three runs and ten hits, while striking out eight.

Wheaton secured the sweep of the twinbill with the 7-6 victory in the finale as the Thunder generated seven runs, on eleven hits, with two errors while Millikin recorded six runs, on eleven hits, with two errors. Thunder starting pitcher Marissa Voss pitched 1-2/3  as she allowed four runs (two earned), on six hits and one strikeout. Butler (7-3) earned the win in relief went in 5-2/3 innings She allowed two runs, on five hits and allowed no walks.  

Nicole Koch (3-2) started the game for Milikin and went the distance with seven runs (five earned), on eleven hits, with one strikeout.  Alyssa Visvardis went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI for the Big Blue in the finale.

Alyssa Leonard led the Thunder in game two, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Lyndsey Pritchard again drove in the game- winning run for the second straight game as her two-run single to centerfield in the seventh inning secured the doubleheader sweep. Pritchard's game-winning hit was part of five Thunder runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Wheaton overcame a 6-2 deficit to dramatically earn the win.
