Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's basketball team, ranked 19
th in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top-25, earned an 83-25 victory at home on Friday against Aurora University in the first day of action at the Beth Baker Classic. Wheaton (3-0) will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the final matchup of the tournament.
Wheaton jumped out to an early lead against the Spartans on Friday as the Thunder led 50-21. The hosts out-scored the Spartans 33-4 in the second half.
Hannah Considine led a balanced Wheaton scoring effort with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field.
NatalieRose Brogan scored 10 points and
Chantal Meacham tallied nine points. Freshman
Kelly Lawson scored eight points off of the Thunder bench. Considine grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while
Lauren Graham and
Melodie Yu added six boards each.
Ellie Zeller had a game-high five assist and
Moriah Reeves distributed four assists.
Shannon Koski scored a team-high 11 points for the Spartans. Morgan Ricketts grabbed eight rebounds for AU and Alexiz Hammond tallied seven boards.
Wheaton shot 42.3% (30-for-71) from the field, including 42.9% (6-of-14) behind the three-point arc and 70.8% (17-of-24) at the charity stripe. Aurora shot 14.3% (8-of-56) from the field and 71.4% (5-of-7) at the free throw line.
