Elmhurst, Ill. - The Thunder wrestling team dropped a thrilling dual against CCIW foe Elmhurst on Thursday night at R.A. Faganel Hall. A back and forth affair throughout the match came down to a the final bout of the night. Elmhurst's Zack Urbanski earned a 14-5 major decision over Wheaton's
Tad Haugen at 285 pounds to swing the dual for Elmhurst with a 22-21 final score.
Elmhurst jumped to a quick lead taking three straight bouts after
Carlos Fuentez won a 13-5 major decision at 125 pounds for the Thunder.
Mark Savenok and
Stephen Aiello tightened the match in the middle weights as Savenok pinned the Bluejays' Nick Brown in 3:21 and Aiello earned a 22-7 major decision at 165 pounds.
The tightest match of the night came at 174 pounds where Elmhurst's Mitch Morris defeated
Frank Aiello 13-12.
Dan Olsen remained unbeaten with an 11-4 decision at 184 pounds and
Logan Walkup won a 3-0 match at 197 pounds to give Wheaton the late lead until the match ultimately swung for the Bluejays with the 285-pound match.
Wheaton will next be in action at the Concordia (Wis.) Open next Saturday in Mequon, Wisconsin.
