Bloomington, Ill. – The fifth-ranked Thunder men's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory at Illinois Wesleyan (7-9-0/1-3-0 CCIW) on Saturday night. Wheaton is now 13-3-0 on the year and 3-1-0 in CCIW play. The Thunder will be off until a CCIW match next Saturday at North Central.
Stephen Golz (PICTURED ABOVE) gave Wheaton an early 1-0 lead when he scored in the 12
th minute. Golz tallied his team-high 10
th goal of the year off of an
Adam Blackman assist. Golz's goal allowed Wheaton to hold a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Marshall Hollingsworth gave Wheaton a 2-0 lead with his seventh goal of the year in the 53
rd minute. Hollingsworth's goal was assisted by senior
Jordan Golz. Jon Clark tallied Wheaton's third goal in the final minute of play thanks to a
Mitchell Grove assist.
Illinois Wesleyan out-shot the Thunder 8-2 in the first half tonight. Wheaton rebounded with a 16-5 advantage in the second half as the Thunder out-shot the Titans 18-13 for the match. Wheaton was awarded eight corner kicks in the match and the Titans had four.
