#6-Women's soccer edges Carthage 2-1 in Wisconsin

Kenosha, Wis. – The sixth-ranked Wheaton women's soccer team earned its fourth consecutive win on Wednesday afternoon as the Thunder topped Carthage 2-1. Wheaton, undefeated in its last seven matches, is now 12-1-1 on the year and improves to 3-0-0 in conference action. Carthage is 6-8-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
 
Sophomore Sarah Frey continued her strong play of late with a goal in the fourth minute to give Wheaton an early 1-0 lead. Carthage quickly responded with a goal by Jessica Socha of the Lady Reds in the ninth minute to tie the match at 1-1. The contest was tied at 1-1 for the remainder of the first half, despite a 10-3 advantage in shots for the Thunder.
 
Junior Ally Witt gave Wheaton the 2-1 advantage when she scored her ninth goal of the year in the 78th minute. The Witt goal was the result of a Kendall Eitreim assist. The Thunder out-shot the Lady Reds 10-3 in the second half as Wheaton emerged with the 2-1 victory.
 
Wheaton goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made two saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of work in the Thunder net. Carthage goalkeeper Abby Alm made six saves and allowed two goals in the Carthage net. Wheaton owned a 20-6 advantage in shots. Wheaton was awarded seven corner kicks and Carthage attempted one.
Wheaton remains in conference play on Saturday when the Thunder will travel to Illinois Wesleyan for a 4:30 p.m. matchup with the Titans.
 
Note Worthy: Wheaton now owns a 23-1-0 advantage in the all-time series with Carthage….Sarah Frey has scored at least one goal in each of Wheaton's last three matches and has at least one point (either a goal or assist) in six of the team's last seven contests.
