Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team (7-15) concluded its participation in the Midwest Classic on Saturday, a tournament jointly hosted by Calvin College and Hope College. Wheaton's two matches for Saturday were held at DeVos Fieldhouse on Hope's campus. The Thunder earned a 3-2 victory on Saturday morning against Kalamazoo College and lost to top-ranked Hope College 3-0 in the final match of the weekend for the Thunder. Wheaton, currently undefeated in conference play at 2-0, will host Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in King Arena.
Wheaton and Kalamazoo battled back-and-forth in the first match of the day as Wheaton earned a 3-2 victory. The Hornets won the first set 25-20 and Wheaton was a 25-19 victor in the second set. Kalamazoo earned a 25-22 win in the third set and Wheaton tied the score at 2-2 with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set. The Thunder closed out the win with a 15-8 victory in the decisive fifth set.

Andy DeMoss picked up 16 kills in the win against Kalamazoo,
Shelby Knowles tallied 15 kills and
Brittany Creel added nine kills.
Ashley Torok distributed 23 assists and freshman
Alley Lindner had 20 assists. Creel led the Thunder with three service aces and Lindner and Torok each had two aces. Knowles led the Thunder with 28 digs and Manning added 24.
Hope picked up the 3-0 win in Wheaton's final match of the day as the Flying Dutch topped the Thunder 25-20, 25-15, 25-19. Knowles had 14 kills in the match and Torok tallied 16 assists. Manning led the Thunder with 13 digs and
Hannah Japp had a team-best four assisted blocks.
