Wheaton, Ill.- For the second game in a row, the Wheaton women's basketball team used a second half defensive run to come from behind for a CCIW victory. Trailing 42-37 with 11:50 remaining, Wheaton held Augustana scoreless for seven minutes and 25 seconds while the Thunder ran off 18 unanswered points to take a comfortable 55-42 lead. From there, Wheaton, ranked 14th in the latest D3Hoops.com poll, was able to coast to a 66-54 victory over Augustana. The victory was Wheaton's 11th consecutive win as the Thunder improved to 12-1 and 3-0 in CCIW play. Augustana dropped its fifth straight and fell to 4-10 and 0-3 in conference action.
Wheaton took control of the game early on Saturday night and despite some sloppy play, the Thunder worked out to a 22-12 lead after a
Lauren Graham lay-up with 8:36 to play in the half. Augustana was able to score the game's next six points to cut the lead down, but Wheaton was able to extend and go into halftime with a 30-23 advantage.
After
Ellie Zeller put Wheaton back up nine after halftime, Augustana scored the game's next seven points to cut the lead down to 32-30 with 17:06 to play. The Vikings then used a 10-0 run to turn a five-point deficit into a five-point lead at the 11:50 mark. A baseline jumper by Graham spraked the comeback with a lay-up to cut the lead to three and start Wheaton's 18-0 run.
Katie McDaniels (PICTURED RIGHT) scored eight of her 11 points during the run and Graham ended the run with a lay-up that made the score 55-42 with 5:58 to play.
Wheaton stretched the lead to as many as 18 before the Vikings scored eight of the next 10 points to cut the final score to 66-54.
Wheaton shot 43.4% (23-53) from the field and missed all four three-point attempts. Wheaton was 71.4% (20-28) from the free throw line. The Vikings were held to a 31.7% (29-60) shooting including 28.6% (6-21) from the the three-point line and 10-16 (62.5%) from the free throw line.

Lauren Graham finished with 13 points and
Katie McDaniels finished with 11 points.
Maris Hovee grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
Wheaton will host #16-Carthage on Wednesday night at 7 PM in King Arena in a battle for CCIW supremacy. Wheaton and Carthage are both 3-0 in conference play.
