GAME STATS Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder softball team earned a 10-1 win victory against Concordia University-Chicago on Friday afternoon at Leedy Field. Wheaton (10-5) will host the
Wheaton Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Wheaton will host Robert Morris (Ill.) at 10 AM, Robert Morris faces Calvin College at 12:30 PM and Wheaton will take on Calvin College at 3 PM.
Wheaton earned the 10-1 victory today with 10 runs, on 14 hits and no errors, while Concordia scored one run, on five hits, with two errors. Thunder starting pitcher
Danielle Schmidt (6-2) earned the victory in five innings of work. Schmidt allowed one run, on five hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.
Schmidt helped her own cause at the plate, going 3-for-3, with three RBI and a run scored.
Katie Yergler (PICTURED LEFT) was 3-for-4 at the plate, with two RBI, one run and a stolen base.
Jessica Goeke collected three hits in four at bats with one run.
The Thunder scored all 10 runs over the first two innings of the game. Wheaton plated six runs in a first inning effort that was highlighted by a two-run single by Schmidt and a pair of run-scoring singles by Yergler and
Shannah Morris. The hosts added four more runs in the bottom of the second inning as Yergler, Schmidt and
Becky Leone each hit RBI-singles. Concordia's run crossed the plate in the top of the fifth inning to account for the 10-1 final score.
